Opportunities for Service
University
Baptist Church offers many opportunities for service.
Some are listed below; others can be
found by following the Mission, Youth Ministry, and Music Links. Where are YOU being led
to serve? There are also member positions.
Our Children's worship services meet every Sunday at 11am, except the
first and fifth Sundays of the month. Children in grades 1 through 5 go
with their parents to the worship service, and about 10 minutes in, are
dismissed for Children's Worship. An adult helper meets them at the
sanctuary door and escorts them to class in Fellowship Hall.
Preschool Worship
This ministry began in 2009 and involves children from age 2
through Kindergarten. They are invited to go directly to room 210
after Sunday School.
Chinese Bi-Vocational Minister
Our Chinese Mission is in need of a Chinese speaking preacher for
their Friday and Sunday evening services. Right now, others preach for
them with an interpreter.
Special Enrichment Classes:
Our church offers occasional member enrichment classes.
For example, In 1999 there were classes in Spanish and Guitar,
and a special seminar for families
in mid
May. In 2001, a Bell Choir was started, with practice Sunday evenings at
4:30 (before the evening service.)
Emergency Food Ministry
Food donations are taken several times a year for the Fairbanks
Food Bank, but especially during the month of October, for World Hunger Day.
Eyeglass Drive
While this is not strictly a ministry of UBC,
we got involved when a group of nurses went overseas, and wanted to
take with them used glasses to donate to needy people in third world
countries. Those wishing to donate their used glasses can still do
that, by mailing them to:
Baptist Nursing Fellowship Office,
100 Missionary Ridge
Birmingham, AL 35242-5235.
Christmas Child
Families in the church enjoy participating
in the Christmas Child project of Samaritan's Purse (begun by Billy
Graham's son, Frank Graham).
They choose a boy or girl in one of three
age groups and fill a shoebox with presents for him/her. The picture
below shows the pile of boxes dedicated in church in 2001 before
being sent. That year, they went to Russia.

The boxes are wrapped or not, but with the
lid left loose. Participants include $10 in the box to go toward
shipping, and Samaritan's purse adds Christian tracts written in the
language of the country where the boxes are distributed to needy
children.
Meets Tuesdays 7 to 9 p.m. at the church
during the regular school year (September - May). Follow
the link for more information.
