University
Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church at 1197 University
Avenue, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709 was established in 1959. Our pastor is Gary Cox, who joined us in September 2000 with his wife,
Jennifer, and sons, Schaeffer, Nathan, and Grady.
Sunday Worship times: 9 a.m., 11 a.m.,
and 6 p.m.
What to Expect Sunday:
Our Sunday Services are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 6 p.m. All
blend traditional elements and hymns with some more contemporary choruses.
Over the course of a month, you can expect to hear a mix of congregational
singing, choir, ensembles, trios, instrumentalists, and solos. There
is no rigid dress code, though evening services tend to be more informal.
Services last about one hour, and there is a Children's Church (gr 1-5) during the
11 a.m. services most Sundays except the first and fifth each month.
Starting September 13, there will also be a Preschool Church (age 4-K)
every Sunday. Bible
Study for all ages begins at 10 a.m. The church has a "cry room"
equipped with closed circuit TV of the services, as well as a nursery for
birth through age 4 during all services. All nursery workers (paid or volunteer) have passed
background checks. In the evening, during the 6 p.m. service, Children's
Choir (gr 1-6) and Preschool Choir meet, starting September 13, 2009.
The congregation itself is a mix of ethnicities from all
walks of life. While predominately "anglo," we have a Chinese Mission, an
International Filipino Fellowship, outreaches to Far East Russia and the
Philippines, and one of the church ministries is a
school teaching English as a second language, as well as citizenship.
Church members include African-Americans, & Koreans, to name just a few.
We now have complete church information
available by phoning 907-479-2440 and surfing our menus when the phones
are on "auto attendant." Extension 502 will take you to special
announcements, and 503 will give you regular weekly events, for example.
Our staff page gives staff extension numbers.
